Key Lawn Care Projects
Midlands Park, Wellington
A very high profile lawn in the heart of Wellington City that has high and constant public use. A full reconstruction of the soil profile complete with full lawn drainage and irrigation, finished with selection of a Tall Fescue grass was carried out. The result was a lush, healthy lawn capable of withstanding high amounts of rainfall and public use throughout the year.
New Artificial Lawn (synthetic turf)
Replacement of a very wet and shaded lawn that never looked good and was mostly unusable. On this occasion, we felt the installation of an all weather synthetic turf was the best option. The old lawn was dug out, a new base material installed and the synthetic turf laid down. The result was fantastic, and provided perfect lawn to use all year round.

Lawn Renovation
Lawns that are in very poor condition often demonstrate a high buildup of thatch and become very compacted. In order to counteract this problem, dethatching is usually carried out followed by an undersow to introduce new seed into the ground. Prior to work commencing, we carry out a lawn assessment and visit your property to establish the condition of your lawn and tailor a renovation that targets your lawn's individual requirements.
Our Lawn Maintenance Programme
Run by a qualified Turf Manager, who has a successful history working for New Zealand’s top golf courses, our Turf Maintenance Programme is second to none. We have produced our own monthly programme that has been created specifically for residential lawns.

Fertilizer
A slow release fertilizer is applied every 2 to 3 months throughout the year, plus two additional applications in Spring and Autumn to boost growth and provide a strong healthy turf.
Weeds
Regular spraying throughout the year with selective and non-selective herbicides to keep your lawn weed- free.
Pests & Fungi
Regular spraying throughout the year to keep harmful insects and/or disease under control.
Moss Control
Regular spraying to keep any moss out of your lawn.

Boundary Spraying
Regular spraying of non-selective herbicide to keep boundary and lawn edges under control.
Dethatching
Decaying organic matter (thatch) builds up over time, preventing water and fertilizer reaching the grass roots, thus restricting grass growth. Annual removal of thatch is necessary to sustain a healthy lawn.
Undersowing
A specialist machine that drills the seed directly into the ground, ensuring maximum germination and a successful grass strike.
Coring/Aerating
We have a coring machine to aerate lawns. This machine will remove 8-10% of the thatch in your lawn (Thatch is dead organic material that builds up in lawns over time). Compacted soil and heavy thatch are two of the biggest obstacles to a premium lawn as they tend to suffocate grass plants by preventing air, water and nutrients from reaching the root zone.
Fertilizer
Correctly-timed fertilizer applications help maintain healthy lawns. Many lawns today are growing in poor quality soil due to construction activities during installation of streets and driveways as well as during excavation for the house's foundations. Under these less than ideal growing conditions, fertilizing lawns is essential to meet their basic nutrient requirements.
Fertilization rates and application frequency directly influence colour, growth rate and density of a lawn. Lawns fertilized infrequently are thin and are prone to weed invasion, insect and/or disease damage. Consequently the grass will be slow to recover and there will be uneven regrowth on bare patches.
Conservation
As a company, we recognize the need for, and place a high importance on, conservation and preservation of our environment.
For this reason, we constantly review our product selection and ensure that no chemicals are used unnecessarily and always only minimally applied to achieve the result required.
Where possible, we also strive to recommend and use organic or non-chemical alternatives.
Correct Lawn Mowing is key to a Premium Lawn
Good lawn mowing, together with good watering practice, can be the most critical factor in the appearance of a lawn. Good mowing techniques not only enhance the appearance of the lawn but also increase the turf grass vigor and health.
Mowing Height
Turfgrass stressed by mowing too low is more prone to disease, weed invasion, drought and traffic stress. Removal of most of the leaf blade limits food production, often resulting in a limited root system and poor growth. A vigorous, dense turf grass area is one of the best defences against weed invasion. Weak grass plants with a limited root system are more prone to drought damage. It is particularly important to mow high during dry weather.
Mowing Frequency
The second critical factor is mowing the lawn on a regular basis. The grass should be mowed so that no more than a third of the leaf blade is removed. So, if the desired height is 50mm, mow the grass when it has grown to 65mm. Mowing frequency will change throughout the year according to seasonal weather patterns.
Scalping
When a lawn is allowed to grow too high and then is mown at too low a level, excess leaf blade tissue is removed. Such 'scalping' of the lawn can cause severe visual damage. More importantly, scalping shocks the grass plants and , as a consequence, growth slows or stops, limiting the vigour of the turf. A scalped lawn may dry out quickly from drought or may develop unusual weed and disease problems.
Blade Sharpness
A dull mower blade shreds the tips of the grass blades. The shredding opens the ends of the leaf blades for increased moisture loss and potentially provides a site for disease invasion. Lawns cut with a dull mower balde may have an overall white appearance from the shredded grass blades.
Improved Mowing Practices
Mowing during the hottest part of the day may cause the lawn to go brown. It is best to mow during the cooler part of the day and always remove the grass clippings or they can cause 'burning' of the grass.
