Why Install an Irrigation System? Whilst water conservation is always important, being water wise doesn’t mean you have to have a brown desert for a yard, but it does mean using a precious resource like water wisely.
With up to 60% of household water consumption used on lawns and gardens, installing an automatic home irrigation system is the best action you can take to control your outdoor water usage. You'll also enjoy the added advantage of unsurpassed vigorous and healthy plant growth with controlled and even watering.

Design and Consultation Service Total Irrigation Ltd has an extensive client database of satisfied residential customers. We offer a design and consultation service that produces a plan specifically for your property, whether it be a basic manual system, or the more high-tech, fully automated multi-zone irrigation system. The first step is property assessment where we usually meet on site to discuss your options. We analyse soil type, and take note of exposure to the sun, shade and/or wind factors and collect the following important information;
Once we have this information, we’ll design a professional, accurate plan of your property, ensuring all aspects are covered. We treat each area in the garden as ‘zones’, as they require different amounts of water (e.g. lawns require different watering to gardens). We also take careful consideration of specific themes such as wetlands, dry coastal plantings or hardy shrub areas and utilise the best irrigation product to suit. You’ll then receive our quotation. We have one of the most experienced teams of Irrigation Technicians who can install your system for you. Or, we can supply the products and associated material required if you prefer to install a system yourself. Once installation is complete, we’ll check the system is working to maximum efficiency, ensuring even coverage while showing you how to programme the controller. We can also regularly service your system as required and will keep you informed of new innovations with our newsletter. |

Commercial Projects Total Irrigation Ltd has installed irrigation systems in a number of commercial landscape projects, high profile parks and gardens, golf courses, bowling clubs and sports grounds including:
|
|
|
High Profile Projects Parliament Grounds: As part of the contract to refurbish Parliament Buildings, an extensive redevelopment of the property’s grounds was undertaken. An extensive new irrigation system was installed throughout the lawns and gardens, for a contract in excess of $300,000. A complex infra-structure of pipework runs through the internal structure of the Parliament Buildings to supply the surrounding landscaped areas. The seismic requirements for the internal pipework, involving many anchors, braces and “floating” intersections of pipework between buildings, make this a truly unique project. Te Papa, Museum of New Zealand: As part of a $1.3 million landscape development project, we were again selected as the preferred tenderer for the irrigation contract. Over four years in planning, the surrounding landscape is an exhibit of the Museum itself, displaying our native flora. Special attention went into creating exact living environments for particular planting sites, with the irrigation providing a pivotal role. As a living exhibit of the Museum, the highest standard of workmanship and quality of product was asked for, which we successfully provided and were proud to be associated with. Puke Ariki, New Plymouth: As part of a redevelopment of the public space and foreshore boardwalk, Total Irrigation was proud to be an integral part of the new City to Sea recreational area, designing and installing their new system. Otari Native Plant Reserve: This is a reserve dedicated to the existence of NZ native plants and Total Irrigation Ltd was selected as the preferred contractor to design and install the irrigation.With the creation of an alpine garden and other specific plant areas, particular attention to the plant’s watering requirements and environmental conditions was required.

Feature Projects The Square, Palmerston North: As part of a major revamp of the Palmerston North City Central square, Total Irrigation Ltd was selected as the contractor to design and install both the irrigation system and the central water feature. The site was spread over 4 hectares and involved a complex two-wire control system to cater for the irrigation demands of such a large and popular public site. The water feature has become an icon in the square and utilises a combination of jets, bubbling fountains, mist sprays and lights to create a very unique and beautiful effect day and night. |

Commercial Turf Projects Wellington Racing Club: A Heron two-wire control control system was installed along with 110 x Toro 855 turf sprinklers to water the main race track and starting chute. Levin Golf Club & New Plymouth Golf Club: Full fairway irrigation was installed to all holes, utilising RainBird Eagle sprinklers and the Stratus two wire control system. A new pump station, and main line pipework was installed and reconnected into the existing greens and tees. Waikanae Golf Club: Installed in stages over three years, we completely redesigned their system. A new pump station, new main lines and fairway irrigation was installed to all holes, utilising RainBird Eagle sprinklers through the fairways, the 51 DS series around the greens and Falcon 6504 on the tees.
Sports Grounds Westpac Stadium: Involved with the initial installation several years ago, Total Irrigation Ltd also recently returned to improve the irrigation system. As a multi-use stadium, it has quickly become the premier location in the country for a number of events. With this increased use, a decision was made to upgrade the control of the sprinklers throughout the field to allow individual operation. Nelson City Council: Total Irrigation Ltd was asked to prepare a design and tender specificiation to implement new irrigation to a large sportsfield development. It will be one of the largest sporting locations in the country, involving over thirty sports fields. Kilbirnie Park: In a major upgrade of a large sports field area incorporating five sports fields and four cricket blocks, Wellington City Council selected us as the head contractor to design and build a new irrigation and drainage system.
New Subdivisions In recent years, Total Irrigation Ltd has been heavily involved with the development of new subdivisions from the initial planning stage and resource consent to full implementation of landscape irrigation. Special attention, with a combination of product selection and control, was required in the following developments to minimise waste and promote water conservation:
